Over the past few weeks, we’ve been reporting to Sony that we’re really working on a new pair of wireless earbuds. These new models are part of the LinkBuds series and are called LinkBuds S. Now, we got some more information about these earphones before launch.
According to a WinFuture report, the Japanese tech giant plans to launch LinkBuds S soon. Unlike the non-S variant featuring open loop design, the upcoming version has a more conventional closed design. However, these are not like other TWS earphones on the market because apparently each individual earbud weighs only 4.8 grams. In other words, LinkBuds S could be the “lightest and smallest” earbud on the market.
Keep in mind that despite being so light it still provides the latest technology like noise cancellation and high resolution audio. This means that there is another aspect of Sony’s LinkBuds S to advertise when marketing new products. By comparison, the popular Apple AirPods Pro weighs about 5.4 grams per bud, while the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 weighs about 5 grams. On the other hand, Sony’s WF-1000XM4 weighs a significant 7.3 grams.
Although a lighter weight should translate into a smaller battery pack, it looks like LinkBuds S will still manage to deliver decent audio playback. It is said to last up to 6 hours (possibly if the ANC is off) and up to 20 hours if attached to the charging case. So stock up for more, as we will provide updates when additional information about this product is available.
