Apple Glasses: What we know so far

Apple Glasses has been under discussion for over 3 years now. However, they are still a safe hidden secret that people don’t know much about. Nevertheless, we found much more important information about the release date, specs, features, price, design and Apple glasses using AR / VR technology.

Apple Glasses

From what we know so far, this could be a groundbreaking item that will revolutionize wearable computing. Multiple leaks, rumors and speculation are supporting it. The leaked prototype seems to be closely related to Google Glasses, launched in 2014.

However, Google’s efforts were far ahead of time and failed miserably. Apple has been working on this project for a long time now. They may soon present something we have not seen before. See what we know about the upcoming Apple Glasses so far. Also, the name has not been confirmed yet.

What exactly are Apple Glasses?

Apple Glasses are the so-called smart wearable glasses that will either act as a standalone device with the ability to pair with other Apple devices, or it will be an accessory for the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook to use energy from the source to provide an AR experience. .

Apple has not yet confirmed anything about the device. However, the tech giant has left subtle hints in multiple cases. It all started with ARKit, a software development tool that allows developers to create apps that incorporate augmented reality.

Prototypes of Apple’s AR-based wearables begin to appear on the Internet in 2020. The designs feature a wearable glass-like device that enables users to bring information directly from the phone right in front of their eyes. Features include texting, email, mapping apps, virtual meeting rooms, 360-degree video playback, realistic gaming and more.

What is the Release Date for Apple Glasses?

Apple is expected to roll out AR-based glasses soon, but no one knows exactly when. Some experts have predicted the release date for the glasses in 2023 while some are still saying that Apple glasses will be launched later this year. Previously, people expected Apple to announce the specs at the Peak Performance event on March 8, 2022. However, the company has only announced the new iPhone SE 5G, iPad Air 5 and Mac Studio..

Now the expectation is gone for the September event. However, it would be unfounded to think that Apple would allow such a revolutionary device to be a shadow of the new iPhone lineup. So, we don’t expect the glasses to be available until at least next year.

In 2020, John Prosser, a prominent insider, began teasing about early prototypes of spectacles, calling them “slick.” He teased a “heritage version” of the device that would look like what the late great Steve Jobs wore. Later, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman stepped in and clarified that all rumors were false.

Apple Glasses Specs and Features

Apple Glass leaks have suggested that they will be a wearable accessory like the Apple Watch rather than a standalone device. The new iOS 15.4 incorporates key AR features to enhance the experience. The specs can use the latest iOS computing power to work.

Nothing is known about space yet. However, considering the current technology, we expect that they will at least have the same field of 52-degree and 447 ppi resolution available in HoloLens 2.

If the upcoming glasses have to be processed and show all the video captured by his camera in 3D, this requires a very high frame rate of at least 60 or 120Hz. Also, current Bluetooth technology will require far more bandwidth than it can ever provide. Spectacles will also require a long-lasting battery to support such high-performance glasses and features. We hope that Apple will implement at least three hours of battery life, but they may surprise us with a longer time.

Features of the Apple Glasses

Coming to the features, rumors and leaks have proved that Apple glasses are very capable. Apple’s patents suggest that the glasses will be able to project virtual images. They will project the image into your eye through a catadioptric optical system.

A leaked injury report from Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino has revealed that Apple’s prototype unit hit two users in the eye. Although the report does not provide much detail about the prototype. Hopefully, Apple will take care of this kind of accident before unveiling the final product.

Apple Glasses

A Bloomberg report suggests that Apple AR glasses will bring your face information from your phone. Another leak suggests that Apple has plans for a third-party app for glasses and will have a dedicated app store for it. Users will be able to watch 360-degree surround video, view and navigate through maps, read and send messages without touching their iPhone, and play live games using glasses.

It will also let you view different parts of the world just like Google Street View but the locations would be projected directly onto the lenses of your glasses. An Apple patent has confirmed the same.

What OS will Apple Glasses use?

Apple will introduce a completely new device form factor using a twisted operating system called RealityOS or GlassOS. The device can run on a proprietary operating system known as Starboard, which is similar to the iPhone’s springboard. Developing a custom operating system for upcoming AR and VR devices would make sense for the company. However, no interface elements have been leaked yet.

This type of user interface has been tested in iOS 13 release candidates. Its “Readme” file reveals that the word was STARTester code and refers to a device that can be worn or worn. It does not confirm anything but supports the expectations of Starboard.

Apple Glasses Design and Display

Apple glasses will have a similar design that has regular glasses. No credible images of the actual design have been leaked. Recent rumors suggest that Apple wants glasses to look fashionable and wearable everywhere, just like the Apple Watch

Apple Glasses

It was nice to see the alleged leaked design of John Prosper, which was later rejected by Mark Gurman. It follows Apple’s method of universal size for everyone, including the adjustable temple (arm). Coming to the display, Sony may be its half-inch micro OLED display supplier for Apple headsets, but they won’t be part of the specs. Instead, Apple will use a smart lens that will project graphics directly into the user’s eyes.

Apple Glasses Price Expectations

It is very difficult to estimate the price of Apple glasses until we know the full specs. In 2020, rumors spread on the web that Apple glasses would be available for around $ 499. Later, a JPMorgan analyst reported that it was only the price of manufacturing materials.

If true, the price of the upcoming Apple Glasses will be as high as 2,000- $ 3,000. However, Apple could go the way of a sophisticated product with affordable tags to attract as many buyers as possible. Nothing seems certain at the moment. We’ll have to wait at least a few more months, or a year, to get realistic information about AR-based glasses.
